Minù is a tiny little kitchen timer app that has been heavily inspired by Dieter Rams’ Ten Principles of “Good Design”. It’s one of those apps that do one thing, but do it very well.
The main screen features a beautiful big dial that works both as a Timer and a Stopwatch. Turn the dial clockwise and set to to whatever time you want to countdown from and hit the start button and it works as a Timer. Hit the start button without rotating the dial and it works as a Stopwatch. Simple and nifty, without the need of any extra buttons. As an added touch, if you rotate the dial anti-clockwise, it’ll snap back to position. There is an info button at the bottom that brings down an instructions’ sheet, but you’ll only have to read those once.
When the alarm goes off, Minù has a subtle tone that’s not too loud or harsh and just sounds perfect. Additionally, there’s a glow that appears behind the timer. The timer continues running in the background if you quit the app and will remind you with a local notification.
The only quibble I have about the app is that I find it odd when the Timer is on, the clock hand moves from 0 to X instead of moving from X to 0.The app is available Free on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad, and also on Google Play for Android Devices.
