Breaking is a new app loving built by the guys at Robocat, the brilliant designers and developers behind several notable iOS apps, most of which have been featured here on Beautiful Pixels. Available for iOS as well as Mac, Breaking allows you to follow the news from your favorite online sources via a Today Widget that you can add to your Notification Center tray.
The app is actually pretty simple and straightforward — When you launch the app the first time, you can add your favorite RSS feeds in the app and then just enable the Today Widget. The app works the same way both on Mac and iOS. Once enabled, the latest articles and content from these RSS feeds shows up in the widget. Whenever the feed refreshes, Breaking will fetch the new content and have it ready for you. You can add multiple feeds into the app, but it only displays the latest five articles in the widget. You cannot rearrange, prioritize or group the feeds together. If the article has an image, the image thumbnail is displayed as well. Clicking on the entry takes you directly to the website, where you can read the article in its entirety.
Breaking is really simple to use, and essentially works as a “set it and forget it” app. Be careful to not add any high-volume feeds into it, as you cannot scroll through the widget. Breaking is priced at $4.99 for OS X and $2.99 for iPhone and iPad.
