In this day and age of Twitter and Facebook, is RSS dead? Many would argue it is. The popular social network mediums gives us an all new & easier way of keeping up with the content our favorite sites post and share with us. However, there are quite a few users out there (including me) who still prefer RSS over anything else. I have more or less settled with Reeder as my choice of app on both the Mac and iOS and it remains a very popular app on both these platforms. However, that hasn’t stopped other developers from bringing their own take on RSS to the market.
Feeder is a Browser Extension for Chrome and Safari developed by the duo at Rootof Creations. It sits as a button in the toolbar of your favorite browser and invokes a floating window when you click on it. Feeder has two themes — an elegant light theme as the default one and a darker theme for others. You can choose to set Feeder up with Google Reader or you can manually manage your RSS feeds. It automatically notifies you when a feed has a new unread item by badging the toolbar button. Unlike some other RSS readers, Feeder doesn’t show the article content in the window. When you click on a feed item, it directly opens the link in your browser tab.
Feeder works as a great little utility to keep up with any service that offers an RSS feed. For example, you can keep up with your Github notifications right in your browser window. Feeder is free to download from the website.
