Both Droplr and CloudApp are fantastic services that offer features like URL shortening and file uploading to their users. Both these services originated as a simple Mac app that sits in the menubar, always ready for whatever command the user gives. We’ve already written about the absolutely gorgeous official Droplr app in the past, which is available as a Universal app. CloudApp, on the other hand, has always relied on 3rd party developers to offer an iOS app. Viewer is one such app for iPhone that offers a really simple & minimalistic interface for browsing through the data on your CloudApp account.
Viewer’s User Interface is heavily inspired by the upcoming release of iOS 7. It uses a mostly white layout, with light typography and glyphs. There are no gradients anywhere in the app, everything looks freshly baked. Once you log in with your CloudApp account, it presents you with a simple list of all your files. Icons on the left determine which type of upload it is, while a count on the right tells you how many views it has had. Tapping on an item previews it within the app. There’s an Upload “text as a button” button at the top right that lets you upload a new image from the Camera Roll or the current contents of the Clipboard. If you select multiple photos from the Camera Roll, Viewer uploads them as a single zip file.
Unfortunately, Viewer is a little too simple in its offering. There’s no way to filter your uploads by type or sort them in any way. You also cannot take a photo from within the app, it only accepts existing photos from the Camera Roll. I also couldn’t manage to zoom out on a page in the in-app browser. Viewer is still a great 1.0 release and can definitely improve with time. It’s available Free on the App Store.
