Recollect is a new to-do app for your Android phone with a focus on location based reminders. Recollect is a really simple app, the UI is not over done, which is why it looks great. Recollect uses the Google Cards UI we’ve come to love since Jelly Bean. The home screen follows the footsteps of Google Now. All your Reminders are listed on different cards showing all the information you need, including when it’s due, the location, and when & where it was created. If it’s a location based reminder, Recollect will even show a preview of the map. If you want to get rid of any reminder, just swipe right and you are done.
Recollect focuses more on location based reminders (even the app icon is a location pin). You can add your most frequent destinations like your home, work, bank and grocery store from the settings menu so you don’t have to type them in the address every time. Simply adding the title “Remind me to turn on the heater” and typing home in the address field will do it. Depending on your location, you can also set up general purpose location reminder. For example if you enter “Bank of America” into the address field, Recollect will remind you the next time you are near any BOA branch. If you don’t know the exact address, you can omit the process of typing it in completely. Of course, to get the most out of Recollect you need to have location Services and Data enabled.
In my testing the location based reminders left a lot to be desired, but that has more to do with my location and the GPS data than it has to do with Recollect. For me, location based reminders have not been a smooth sailing, even Google Now reminders would be an hour late sometimes. So, if you live in a place that’s heavily mapped out, say North America, you should not a have problem.
Recollect gets the fundamentals right. The UI is intuitive and works well, the notifications are prompt and detailed and depending on where you live, the location based reminders should come in handy as well. Right now, the functionality of Recollect is really limited but the developer has promised to update the app with Checklists, recurring tasks, back ups, multi device sync and tablet support. With time, Recollect will only get better. Recollect is available Free on Google Play. Check out the video after the break.
