Notoriety — A Minimal Notes App for Apple Watch and iPhone

Notoriety is an elegant and minimal notes app for iPhone from the house of Wander Bit. Much like the thousands of other takes on a minimal notes experience, Notoriety puts the focus on your content and offers a customizable, minimalistic design for your use.

Notoriety lets you quickly create a new note and then add tags to that note. You can browse all your notes together or browse them by tags. To help you get started, there are a few default notes that are filed under the ‘Tips’ tag. All your tags are displayed on the main screen and you can drag and change the order of the tags’ list as you want. I found it odd that the often used ‘New Note’ button is to the right while the ‘New Tag’ button gets the center position.

Notoriety provides five different themes for you to choose from — Default, Sky, Midnight, B/W and Ruby. Similarly, you can customize how the list of notes looks in the app. You can show or hide the lines between the notes, tags or the dates, as well as choose whether you want to display the entire note or just a line. I love how you can drag the back button to go back directly to the main screen, but I’m not sure why the app lacks the ability to swipe from the left edge to go back.

Notoriety also includes an app extension to create new notes. Using this extension, you can select text in any app and create a new note with that text directly in Notoriety. Not just that, you can use the app extension right within Notoriety, in case you want to duplicate a note. Unfortunately, not only does Notoriety lack the ability to sync, there’s also no way to backup or export your data.

Notoriety is a good start, but it doesn’t give you enough reasons to switch from your existing app. If you’re looking for a new app to play with and help shape up the future releases, you can grab it for $1.99 from the App Store. It also has a nifty Apple Watch app.
