[tweetmeme] I have absolutely no interest in knowing the weather conditions—add to that our weather department is bogus— but I can’t wait to get my hands on Outside. Created by Will Wu of Robocat Apps, Outside is a beautiful weather app, with delicious pixels cooked by the Michael Flarup of PixelResort.com. The ‘candy’ UI does away with standard controls, but you look at it and it feels right at home on the iPhone. What you can’t see in the screenshots, is that the view through ‘the window’ is fully animated and involves a simple intuitive swipe gestures to switch from…

There may be thousands of apps on the App Store, but only one kind make it to my iPhone—the beautiful ones. A few turds do slip in a way, but for most part I appreciate sensible design along with some visual flair. That’s why I had to check out 2Do, a task list manager with a stupendously beautiful UI. As I later found out, it’s also got some serious features that earns it a good review. 2Do’s primary screen is much like a compact notepad, with tabs segregating your personal and work tasks. [tweetmeme] If we’re starting at ground zero, what better way than to have a nice little list. Mac software has so far exhibited a far greater penchant for user interface design than their Windows counterparts. Let’s not bring Linux into the picture. While most Mac apps exhibit good user interface design, there are some exceptionally well done pixels. Here’s a few among the many apps highlighting some excellent visual design and functionality. LittleSnapper Creating waves even before its release, LittleSnapper from RealMacSoftware has captured the hearts of many a Mac user. While more pretty than functional in its earlier releases, the…

First of all, Hi, and thanks for stopping by. To save you from the troubles of going through a lengthy introductory post, I’ll keep this short. [tweetmeme] We’ve been running Smoking Apples, an Apple-centric resource for the past year or so. In course of discovering and reviewing products, we’ve found a lot of them exhibit extraordinary user interfaces, that leave a drool stain on ones t-shirt. So we thought how about we create a place, a little haven, dedicated to service beautiful user interface. We don’t discriminate against buggy software, we won’t give much regard to heavy ajax in a…

In the age of apps flooding the app store, here’s a refreshing little web app “Showtime” developed by Nial Giacomelli. Created using the jQTouch plugin maintained by David Kaneda, Showtime exhibits native touch behaviour while being based entirely out of webkit. And it’s beautiful. What does it do? The app, currently in beta, brings to you show timings for over 400 TV programmes, so you know when the next episode of Curb your Enthusiasm is airing. The app, once added to the home screen without which it won’t work, also stores its information in a local database on your iPhone,…

iStat Pro is possibly the only reason I continue to use the Dashboard. Right from its first iteration, iSlayer (now Bjango) created one of the most delicious widgets for the Mac. It’s also the most functional of the lot. So what is it? iStat pro is a highly configurable widget that lets you monitor every aspect of your Mac, including CPU, memory, disks, network, battery, temperatures, fans, load & uptime and processes. iStat pro can do it all. What’s crazier is that the widget is completely free! If the Dashboard isn’t your cup of tea, you can go ahead and…
