Minimal App Icons

Minimal App Icons

Kara Zichittella and Andrew McCarthy have come together to design a beautiful set of app icons that can be used to replace the default icons on a Mac. The icons are very flat and minimal but with just enough detail in them to have their own identity. There’s no unnecessary colors, shadows or gradients in these apps.

The icon set is named .app.icns and contains 20 high-quality, beautifully designed icons for the following apps.

  • Finder
  • Dashboard
  • Mail
  • iTunes
  • iPhoto
  • Preview
  • Sticky Notes
  • TextEdit
  • Chrome
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Skype
  • iChat
  • Calendar
  • Contacts
  • Quicktime
  • Activity Monitor
  • Trash
  • VLC
  • Candybar

Of course, you could use any of the icons for any app or your choice. The icon set is neatly packaged in a iContainer file that can be managed using CandyBar, an excellent app by Panic who unfortunately recently announced that the app was going free and unsupported. However, it still works on OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), so go ahead and get hold of it right away. You can download the icon set from here.
