My Finances, the ridiculously minimal finance tracking app for iPhone & iPad that we wrote about back in May this year, has been updated today with a notable new feature that takes full advantage of iOS 8 and one of its new APIs. You can now add a Today widget to your Notification center that gives you a quick overview of the Income & Expense transactions your are currently tracking in the app. Thanks to this, My Finances now requires iOS 8 to be installed on your iOS device and won’t work on devices running iOS 7.
The Today widget becomes available as soon as you update to the new version and gets installed in the Today view. Once installed, the widget shows you the total of your income and expenses for Today & Yesterday using a horizontal bar graph. You can edit this widget to show you stats for this week or month instead. The bars in the graph are color coded according to the percentage of transactions in each category, so they give you a quick overview of where your money was spent or what brought you the most income. Tapping on these takes you straight to the app and shows you additional details for that period. This update also adds support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, including the specialized landscape view on iPhone 6 Plus.
My Finances has continued to receive updates and improve since we first wrote about it and this update makes it a strong contender on the App Store. The app is available Free on the Store with an IAP to unlock additional features.
