Lighting is arguably the most important factor when it comes to photography. How good a photo ends up being is directly dependent on the way a subject is lit. Although there are tons of different ways you can light up a scene, nothing comes close to natural light photography. And the best kind of natural light for photography is during what is known as the golden hour (or magic hour). This is the period where the light from the sun is soft, at a better angle and works best for your photo and is often only less than an hour long.
However, knowing when the golden hour is every day is difficult and that’s what Lumy is here for. Lumy is an elegantly designed iOS app that tells you exactly what time the golden hours (twice a day) start and end. Available as a Universal app that runs on your iPhone as well as iPad, Lumy presents this information in a very lovingly designed UI.
When you launch the app, it automatically picks up your location and then displays the magic hour timings for you. You can swipe each cell to the left to get additional details, including weather and swipe to the right to enable a notification for that event. Pulling down from the top lets you pick a future date to view golden hour details while pulling up from the bottom refreshes the information for you. You can tap on the location at the bottom and then choose to see the magic hours for any other major city in the world.
Lumy looks elegant and great both on the iPhone and iPad. It’s available on the App Store for just $1.99.
