Just over a year ago, we wrote about Pinner 3.0 and how it was the first Pinboard app to take advantage of the new features available on iOS 8. The app was quick to implement the new user-facing features that iOS 8 brought along, like a custom Share extension, and it undoubtedly set the bar high for every other Pinboard app out there. In his review, Mikhail wrote that Pinner 3 was “one of the best Pinboard apps available today”.
Sam Oakley, Pinner’s talented developer has been hard at work over the last few months readying the app for iOS 9. Just like with iOS 8, there are some amazing user-facing features introduced in iOS 9 and with Version 4.0 that is now available on the App Store, Pinner is once again ready for its users. With this update, Pinner has added Spotlight search, so you can now search your bookmarks without launching the app. Your bookmarked links now open in a native Safari View Controller, so your logins stay active across apps. Of course, there’s support for Slide Over and Split View modes on the iPad as well.
With Version 4.0, Pinner also introduces a very interesting feature called ‘Shared Links extension’. This is the first time I’ve seen a third-party app do this. The Shared Links extension, once enabled in Safari, gives you access to your latest 200 bookmarks right within the browser. This is a pure genius way of accessing your bookmarks and I’m surprised how no other app had taken advantage of this yet.
Pinner 4.0 is available as a Free Update to existing users and is available for $4.99 on the App Store. It also offers a nifty Apple Watch app to access your bookmarks right on your wrists.
