Teevee 3 Goes Universal

Teevee 3 Goes Universal

Teevee 2 was released on the App Store less than a year ago and it left us very impressed. The app was a huge improvement and shipped with a stunning UI that left us in awe. The app progressively received updates that updated the UI to be more along the lines of iOS 7, including an edge-to-edge homepage UI that looks spectacular. Today, the developers have released version 3.0 of Teevee that not only improves upon the features and experience, but also brings it to the glorious screen of iPad.

Easily the most notable addition in version 3.0 is that it is now a Universal app. Teevee 3 really shines on iPad, taking full advantage of all the screen estate. It uses a two column layout like in Mail — the left pane displays the list of shows that you have added and the right pane displays information about each show. The right pane is sub-divided into 4 columns — Upcoming (episode), Info, Cast and (list of) Episodes. If you’ve used the iPhone version in the past, all your shows will be readily available on iPad, thanks to iCloud Sync. Compared to iPhone, I rather enjoy browsing the TV Show meta data on iPad instead. Oh, and it looks stunning on a Retina screen.

Also included in this update is an alternative homepage layout on iPhone. If the vertically laid out list of your shows isn’t working for you, you can toggle a new layout that displays full-screen posters of each TV show, which look absolutely beautiful.

Teevee 3 now has Trakt.tv integration, so your favorite shows and related activity can be sync’d to the service and any other app that supports the service. This is handy if you have both an iOS and Android device.

The app has also gotten some love under the hood with the addition of Background Refresh. Teevee can now fetch new episode data in the background and keep them ready for you when you next launch the app. The app has been riddled with bugs related to wrong metadata in the past, but the developers claim that has all been fixed in this version and in my experience, I haven’t come across anything to complain about that.

Teevee 3 is a fantastic update to an already great app. If you already have Teevee 2, you’ll get this update for free. If you haven’t yet joined the club, Teevee 3 is $2.99 on the App Store.
