Tengami by Nyamyam is a popup book style puzzler game with a Japanese touch. The screenshots of the game pretty much sell the art style to you instantly. After watching the trailer, Tengami looked like something I would love because of the #sworcery-esque gameplay and uniqueness.
Tengami takes place in a beautiful pop-up book world, that involves you turning pages and sliding parts of the world to complete puzzles or just move forward. The atmosphere is peaceful and zen-like, with an amazing soundtrack by David Wise. You move around by double tapping a part of the screen. The game is puzzle driven and while many of the puzzles are really fun with proper clues, there are the ambiguous ones that either take too long to solve or feel poorly crafted. While this is an adventure game, the story aspect feels quite lacking. This is unfortunate because the production values of the art and music are phenomenal. There is also this one annoyance where the protagonist walks over steps and just appears on the steps above.

Tengami is a visual and aural delight. It absolutely must be experienced on an iPad Retina screen. I just wish the story had more to it and that the game was a bit longer. Tengami could have been a 10/10 gaming experience, but it saddens me that the story bit is so lacking. I cannot recommend the visual and music aspects of Tengami enough. It has iCloud sync for progress across iPhone and iPad and this worked flawlessly. You can watch the trailer here. Tengami is available on the App Store for $4.99. It is also up for preorder on PC and Mac here.
