Barcodes are everywhere. There is a barcode on the Coke can that’s on your table, there is one on the book in your bag probably. You never notice them, because they are really not very interesting. Well, Leo van der Veen didn’t think so. Leo has created Barcodas, an app for iPhone that actually converts barcodes into music.
The app is really simple. You tap on the scan button, and point the camera towards a bar code. The app captures the image and converts the barcode to a melody. You have options to change the scale and BPM. The BPM adjustment screen is particularly quite gorgeous. The app is a ton of fun. I went crazy looking for things with barcodes just to play with this app. You can see how it works in this video below.
Barcodas is an app that you can impress your friends with. It actually converts barcodes to music, and for me that is ‘magical’. Barcodas is available on the App Store and costs $0.99.
PS: You might think it’s a great idea to visit Target and have some fun with this app, but the security guys there don’t like it when you go around scanning random products. Believe me, I speak from personal experience.
