I’m really loving this new trend of news apps where you can quickly glance at what’s been happening around the world as well as the most important news that you should be aware of. I love using apps like Circa and Timeline and the newest app to make its way to my folder is BuzzFeed News.
Before I begin, I should point out that this is the BuzzFeed News app, so you’re not going to find the kind of content that’s typically associated with BuzzFeed in here. This app is a great way to catch up with the interesting or important news happening around the globe. The content is hand-picked and curated by the BuzzFeed editors, so the useless clutter is already filtered out. You’ll see articles from all the prominent sources, including AP, NYTimes, Washington Post and even Twitter.
We make the news easy to understand. Our editors know that when something happens, the who, why, when, and how matter just as much as the what. We’ll make sure you’ve got context and background to major news events as they happen.
When you first launch the app, you’ll find a nifty section at the top that helps you to quickly catch up with the top stories that you may have missed. If a major event has occurred and there are multiple news stories coming out, this is a great place to catch up. Below this section, you’ll find rich media news stories about all kinds of topics. I especially like the “A bit of background” feature. You can read a summary right here, but to read the entire article, you have to click through to the source. You can also quickly share a news story included in the app with your friends and the app will also include a screenshot of the summary.
The BuzzFeed News app also offers the option to receive Push Notifications across various topics that you may be interested in. You can opt into receiving alerts for Major Breaking News, World, U.S. News, U.S. Politics, LGBT, Business & Technology, Celebrity & Entertainment, Sports and recently, the FIFA Corruption Scandal and Charleston Church Shooting. If you don’t want to be disturbed with alters, you can even enable a “Do not disturb” period within the app.
BuzzFeed News is available for the iPhone for Free on the App Store while an Android version is coming soon.
