There’s no doubt that Instagram has become one of the most popular apps on the iOS platform. In fact, after the recent launch of an Android app and the much hyped Facebook purchase, I’d say it is one of the most popular mobile apps to have been released in recent years. A large number of apps spawned after Instagram released its API and went on to become popular too, even though posting photos to the service is still only possible through the main app.
Flipagram is one such beautiful new app that makes use of the Instagram API. The app lets you create video slideshows from the photos you’ve shared on your Instagram account. It boasts a nice, elegant UI with some very pretty color gradients. This really made me like the app on the first-look. The UI isn’t gorgeous, but it’s got the perfect blend of being smooth, smart and it just works in this environment.
You can either log in with your Instagram account or just try creating a “Flip” (video slideshow) using the popular photos from Instagram. The only caveat is that you can’t share this Flip, it’s only available inside the app. Once you log in with your account, it pulls all your photos and lets you choose any number for the flip. You can give it a caption, choose the duration of each slide and the font. The app is fairly quick in creating the videos, so you’re at the preview and sharing screen in no time. You can only save to Camera Roll, Email the video or upload it to YouTube, so I was disappointed there was no option for Vimeo or the Twitter-Video services.
Flipagram does a pretty good job of creating video slideshows in a pretty fabulous design. However, I wish it was a little more heavy with features. For example, there’s no way to edit existing Flips — you have to start all over again. It’s available on the App Store for just $0.99.
