There’s no denying that the iPod app is a superb way to play music on your iPhone or iPod touch. There have been music apps with 3D covers and automatic timers, but at the end of the day I think most just fall back to using the default app.
If there’s one thing that the iPod app can’t do, is display lyrics for songs that don’t have lyrics in their database. It’s 2010, with ubiquitous internet connectivity, and we still have to sync over lyrics. On Stage automatically fetches lyrics from online, and can look up artist and track info from wikipedia entries.
In terms of UI, On Stage is nearly the same iPod app but with pixels that are more with the trends (graphite hues, glossy buttons). But even then the UI seems a little crude in places. Weird icon, too.
At $0.99, I don’t expect this to be an app that I’d launch every time I need to listen to music, but will come in handy for those times I need a lyric look up.
