The advent of apps like Instagram has had a tremendous impact on our lives & the way we broadcast the things we deem beautiful. It took social photography to a whole new level and made it fun and exciting to pursue. This led to a huge surge of Instagram-esque apps with filters and instant sharing with nothing new to offer apart from a mash up of filters.
Pixplit is a fresh new take on social photography, focusing on something we’ve all done at some point in our lives – creating collages. Pixplit takes creating collages a step further & makes it interesting by letting you collaborate with your friends on the same pic. The app has a very clean design and uses some nice colors throughout the app.
Pixplit’s UI can be navigated using 3 primary tabs – Playground, Completed and Create a new ‘Split’. Playground shows you a feed of all the ‘splits’ posted by your friends or people you follow that are incomplete and have empty slots which you can choose to fill in. If you feel you have a picture that fits beautifully into the collage, you simply choose to join in and add your photo to the collage.
The Completed tab allows you to browse through the completed collages. And let me tell you, this section is where you’ll be spending most of your time. Some collages are just gorgeous and fit so well that it will make you wonder whether it’s an actual singular photo or a collage composition, whereas a lot of them are downright amusing and will definitely put a smile on your face.
The center tab allows you to start a collage of you own, called a ‘split’. Tap the camera button and you will be presented with a total of 9 frames, each having slots arranged in a different manner. When you select any frame, you will be able to take a photo and allot it to just 1 slot. And as is the norm these days, no photo app is complete without filters. After taking a photo, you will be presented with a variety of filters to apply. Once that’s done, you can choose to add a title, share it to social networks, add tags and invite friends to complete your split. And that’s it; your split is then available in the playground for your friends to complete using their imagination.
I can already see Pixplit developing a niche following of creative photo collage creators and gaining a considerable user base owing to its Instagram style social element of user profiles, likes, comments and sharing support. Pixplit truly showcases the level of creativeness that can be achieved when you collaborate with other people. This is not just another instagram clone having pictures filled with people’s cats, foods and beverages or some random collage app; Pixplit is something which truly justifies and defines the very meaning of social photography and all the while making it simple, meaningful and really fun to use.
Pixplit is available Free on the App Store and I urge you to give it a fair shot!
