We’re back from our break for the holidays and hope you enjoyed our new end-of-year feature, The Highlight. What better way to start of 2014 than with an app that helps you get important and boring things done quickly. Raureif already impressed us with Partly Cloudy a while back. I’ve been using Scanner Pro by Readdle for a long time now. It has worked really well. Scantastic by Raureif is a new scanner app for your iPhone.
Scantastic does a lot of things very well. It doesn’t look like the other scanner apps, has some great animations during processing and also saves time with its auto upload functionality to a few cloud based services. I absolutely love the Scantastic flow that takes you from scanning to having the file in your Dropbox folder or Evernote notebook. You can set it to launch with the scanner camera ready to save a few taps. The main view has a collection of all your scanned documents visible and the bar on the top blurs the documents below as they scroll into it.

In the scan mode, there are toggles on the top for keeping the flash on and going from colour to black and white mode. You can even pick a document size from this view by tapping the selected size on top. The scan button is a circle filled with multicolour triangles. These are also present on the app icon that looks really nice. When you’re in the scan mode, the scan button moves up and slowly rotates as well. Once you hit scan, the app captures a photo and while it is being processed, there are triangles that slowly cover your photo to indicate the progress. From here you can directly print the document, view its name and timestamp, add another page, delete it and share the document to Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote or Open In another app along with the usual in built sharing services. I have the app set to auto upload scanned documents to Dropbox and it works perfectly. Tapping edit allows you to switch the mode to colour, adjust the contrast, rotate the image and fine tune the corner cropping that is done in a similar way to Scanner Pro. You can also rename the document from here.
The in app settings lets you link your cloud services, choose whether to allow upload over wifi only and set the default paper size and export format used. The One-Tap-Scan toggle to launch the app in camera mode is also here.
Scantastic is a breath of fresh air in this category of apps. The app could use some performance tweaks and having used Scanner Pro for so long, I miss an iPad version to view documents synced across among other things. Scantastic is the best looking scanner app for your iPhone and it is available on the App Store for $1.99.
