Back in 2011, we told you about Silk — an experimental project in generative art by Yuri Vishnevsky. It was a stunning example of what could be achieved using HTML5’s <canvas> element and back then, as I stood in awe, I always wondered what could be achieved had this been implemented natively on iOS. Unfortunately, I somehow lost track of the project up until a few days ago, when Devin, one of our regular readers, emailed us about Silk 2 on the App Store.
Silk 2 not only answers the question I had back in 2011, but it also goes ahead and does so much more. Silk 2 is a major update to Silk Legacy, which has been available for iPhone and iPad for a few years now. Silk 2 completely reimagines the art style, symmetries, brushes, etc. using modern technologies. It looks exceptional on the larger iPad screens and even supports the new Apple Pencil, allowing you to precisely point and sketch on the screen. There’s 3D Touch support built into the app as well.
Silk 2 is an insane amount of fun and a great way to spend time moving your fingers on the screen. The app has music crafted by the talented Mat Jarvis. The music really makes the experience even better.
Silk 2 is currently available at a 66% OFF discount for just $0.99 on the App Store and is a Universal app, available for iPhone and iPad.
