Here’s another fun little app for your iPhone that has very little practical use, but you’ll find yourself playing with it numerous times. Soundbeam is a beautiful app by Evil Window Dog, a two person indie studio in Greece.
Essentially, Soundbeam is an oscilloscope for your iPhone. The app’s design matches exactly that of a real world oscilloscope, right down to the buttons and the input plug. Soundbeam listens to sounds around the device and plots them neatly into waveforms. It’s fascinating to see how different sounds take different waveforms in the app and you can even toggle between linear and logarithmic waveforms, if that’s your thing.
Soundbeam has been polished & refined at every detail, so it even includes little things like the input cord attaching to the plug when you connect earphones or external inputs to your iPhone. The latest version even lets you take screenshots in a single tap, so you can share those wonderful waveforms with your friends. Available Free on the App Store, there’s no reason why you wouldn’t want to grab the app.
