I love watching movies. Not just big budget productions, but I often spend my time on Vimeo browsing through a ton of fantastic no/low-budget or indie films that are uploaded there. On Vimeo, the myPlex bookmarklet comes in handy when I come across something interesting but cannot watch it right away. But there are times when I’m checking an interesting new trailer on the Trailers app or come across something I like on Twitter and I want to make a note of that movie so I can attend to it at a later date. Letterboxd used to come in handy for something like this, but the lack of an iOS app was severely felt when I was out and about.
Well, not any more. Todo Movies is here to make this easy for you. As the name suggests, Todo Movies is a gorgeous iPhone app that lets you maintain a list of movies you want to track and watch at a later date. The app gives you a very straightforward way to quickly add your favorite movies to the list — just tap the ‘+’ button at the top-right, search for the movie you want to add and it’ll quickly fetch all the possible matches, including the movie poster and its release year. Tap the one you want to add and Todo Movies loads up a gorgeous full-size poster of it. Tapping on the poster plays the trailer for you, so you don’t have to leave the app here. Tapping on the glyph at the top-right flips the screen, revealing the movie’s synopsis and cast info.
Two buttons at the bottom of the screen let you either add the movie to your list or share it with your friends. If the movie is set to release at a future date, Todo Movies also offers the option to remind you via a Notification when it releases. If you are sharing it with your friends, the app has a beautifully animated menu that is revealed from the bottom — very much like the menu in Path. This is extremely well implemented, and just adds to the beautiful experience of the app.
Todo Movies looks stunning on the Retina Display and boasts a fantastic UI coated with some lovely pixels. But it doesn’t stop there, the app also offers the perfect solution to keep track of movies you don’t want to forget. It’s available on the App Store for just $0.99.
