While most email clients have a ton of features and complicated interfaces, Let.ter by Mutahhir Ali Hayat and Matthew Guay aims to be very different. It is a minimal markdown composer for email. It does One Thing Well™. Let.ter focusses on a great writing experience for email as opposed to your traditional email app that just bombards you with new email and has your inbox filled with loads of unread email.
Let.ter’s main view is just one blank text composition view with minimal distractions. You enter the subject on top and recipients by clicking the “Send to whom?” button on the bottom left in a popup. The app is all about markdown, so it supports markdown shortcuts and looks great fullscreen. Clicking Preview on the bottom right will show you a Markdown preview of your content. In the Preview mode, you can either go back to editing the text or send the email. The only thing I find surprising in Let.ter is the placement of edit and send buttons being so close to each other in the preview mode.
Let.ter’s take on writing email is quite unorthodox and it will be immensely useful if you actually enjoy writing emails to people and don’t just use email to quickly reply to emails you get. You can try Let.ter for free here for 7 days. It is available for purchase for $3.99 after.
