As soon as I completed the SA redesign, it was so clear how archaic BP looked in comparison. Truth is, for a while now I’ve hated BP’s look. Even though we did a spring clean up a couple of months ago, it still sported so much of function that wasn’t right for the kind content of this blog. I wanted it to look and feel more like a Tumblr blog.
While the blog still resembles the BP of yesterday, it’s fresh as fresh can be. First of all, I’d like to acknowledge the awesome logo that Matthew Rex (@matthewrex) designed for us. Perfectly blends into the site, favicon, twitter stream, and even the apple-touch-icon that shows up as an icon on your home screen or a thumbnail in Reeder. BP couldn’t have a better logo than this one.
A lot has changed in this layout. For one, we’re taking out comments. They didn’t work out too well for this blog, since our content is less ‘review’ and more ‘showcase’. If you’d like to say something, shoot us an email or @beautifulpixels us on twitter. There’s also far less navigation in this UI, since there isn’t much segregation in content type anyway — it’s all just about gorgeous pixels after all. And as with SA, there’s hardly any social media stuff in the new look. The sole ‘retweet’ button in fact pops up a sheet right on the page, from where you can tweet out your thoughts along with a shorturl, all thanks to the “Tweet it!” implementation by Andy Graulund. For the record, I did try to implement the retweet button on the main page, but the it wouldn’t work without a completely different implementation of Twitter Anywhere (which we’re working on).
That’s enough words on the new design. I hope you like it, and as always, look around!
