I have waited a really long time to write this. Six years ago, we introduced you to Homescreen.me — the third website on the iXyr Media network. We started off with Smoking Apples, the now defunct Apple blog in 2007 and then in 2009, we went on to launch Beautiful Pixels — this very site that you’re reading this on. Following that, we announced Homescreen.me — a simple way to share your homescreens and discover new apps.
Today, we’re delighted to announce an all new Homescreen.me. We have completely re-built the website from scratch to be a place where iOS enthusiasts can not just browse the homescreens of the hand-picked and Featured users, but also upload and share their own homescreens with their friends and followers. We also support the Apple Watch, so if you have a watch face that’s worth taking a look at, you can share that too. It is also a great way to discover and find out about what apps everyone is using, which wallpapers are trending and what arrangement people have on their Apple Watches.
Where’s the iPhone app?
One of the most requested features from the original website was a native iPhone app that would let anyone post their homescreens directly from their iPhones. And so when we set out to revamp the site, we took an app-first approach and built a stunning iPhone app for our users. Unfortunately, Apple rejected the app. We made some changes, but they rejected it again. We’re written about our journey and the reason for rejection in detail on the official Homescreen.me blog, in the following article:
Since Apple wasn’t going to approve the iPhone app, we set out to rebuild the website and we’re proud of what we’ve built in ~2 months. Go ahead and sign up on Homescreen.me or check out the Featured homescreens from our users.
For those wondering, yes, we’ll be adding support for iPads very soon. We have a lot more features planned and/or in the works already, so stay tuned.
