Since CSS doesn’t need to be written in a certain style, it’s almost rare to find the perfect document — one that’s written the way you would write it. Then there’s badly written CSS with no style, mixed styles, or machine generated CSS. The other day, I had to go through a ‘compressed stylesheet’, which pretty much removed all of the spaces in the entire document, to save a few KBs. We need beauty in code, too.
I heard about ProCSSor the other day, about its ability to clean up a CSS document. I knew I wanted that for years now, but little did I realise that when I did finally get it, it would look so freakin’ beautiful, and feature rich. You can paste in some CSS, load in a file, or directly pull it from a link. Each of these UIs is presented in some lickable pixels — really wow. Now comes the fun part. Not only does ProCSSor format your CSS, but you can format it to your liking. You don’t have to, but you can set whatever indents, spacings, and styles you want your final document to have. I love the way it’s all presented, where hovering over a drop down menu will float a pop-up on the side explaining the options.
This is a tool I can see myself using many times over. If you deal with CSS, ever, you have to check out this beauty. Also, that is one clever name.
