What a week this past week has been. Google made some big, mostly developer-centric announcements at I/O this year and Google Glass continues to see some interesting new apps being released for it. The Yahoo board just approved a $1.1 billion all-cash deal to buy Tumblr and all eyes are now set on what Apple possibly announces at WWDC next month. Till then, let’s see what we have on the Platter this week.
TodoMovies 2.1
Our favorite movie library app, TodoMovies 2 got an amazing v2.1 update that rocked our socks off. With this update, TodoMovies introduces a new feature called Motion Posters. A step up from the boring & simple movie posters, Motion Posters are visually stunning videos with sound. Although these are only availble for a select few movies, they're truly awesome. The update also introduces some nifty swipe gestures to make it easy to add movies to your library from search. It's a Free update to existing users and the app is $1.99 on the App Store. Here’s an example:
Valet Update
Valet, the beautiful automatic car locator app for Android that Rohan was swooning over also received a fantastic update a couple of days ago. One of the first apps to do this, Valet now utilizes Google’s new location API that they introduced at Google I/O. This way, everyone can get the automatic park feature, even works when riding your bicycle! Best of all, Valet now costs just $1.99 and already includes the bluetooth feature that was previously available as an in-app purchase. So 2 bucks get you the complete set of features. You can grab it from Google Play here.
FIFA Interface Concept
Brazilian designer Rodrigo Bellão has come up with this very interesting interface concept for EA Sports' FIFA series. FIFA's current UI is known to be sluggish and boring, so this looks like a huge improvement from it. I'm far from a FIFA enthusiast, but this I definitely like. You can watch the video up on Vimeo.
Sipp
Sipp is an awesome iPhone app for wine lovers. Sipp boasts of a beautiful user interface and allows you to share what wines you are tasting, with your friends. The app lets you post a photo of your wine along with the year, grape, region and name and lets you choose the rating for it. This is posted to your feed, much like Instagram. You can follow other people and explore what they’re drinking and how much they like it. It’s a custom social feed for wine lovers and Free on the App Store.
CSS Only 3D MacBook Air
Burak Can, a very talented designer from Instanbul, has put together this amazing little demo of a 3D MacBook Air using only CSS. We’ve already seen some insanely great examples of CSS-only demos here on Beautiful Pixels and this one joins their ranks too. Go ahead and check it out here.
NES
Another great example of using only HTML/CSS to make something awesome. This demo by ‘One div’ recreates the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) complete with an auto-opening tray and buttons that you can press. There’s also a little light that activates when you press the power button. You can view the NES at different sizes using the circles at the top left. There are some other great examples on CodePen too, so make sure you check them out.
