While I’m not a heavy calendar user, I do find myself scheduling some odd events at times. I’ve been very content with Fantastical for my needs, as it does a pretty good job of understanding what I want to add, both on the iPhone as well as on my Mac. As someone who loves to check out new apps, I have been beta testing the Sunrise Calendar over the past several months. Late last week, Sunrise Calendar was updated to version 2.0 that brought a completely redesigned User Interface to the app, along with a much requested feature by its users — iCloud calendar support.
Sunrise Calendar has been an absolutely beautiful iPhone app that hooks up to multiple Calendar services and lets you view all your events in a single view. It also displays the weather info for your location right next to the day, so you know exactly what you should be looking forward to. For example, you can add your Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn and Producteev accounts in Sunrise and it’ll pull all the events from these sources for you. The latest update added support for iCloud Calendar, so in case you haven’t been pretty happy with the default Calendar app in iOS 7, you should definitely give Sunrise a try.
The new iOS 7 inspired design is minimal, fresh and presents you events in a clean layout. I’ve heard from a few people who complain that this new design has a very dense information clutter, but since I don’t have too many events, I haven’t had any troubles with it. Sunrise supports notifications & event invites in-app. Thus, it even notifies you when its your Facebook friend’s birthday. When adding a new event, you can choose which of your calendars the event is being added, so it’s easy to keep them organized.
Sunrise is a pretty great alternative for anyone looking for a calendar app after installing iOS 7. Going from 1.0 to 2.0, the app has also shed its old icon and now sports a much better app icon. You can grab it Free from the App Store.
