Curator is a stunning app for your iPad that works as a visual organization tool for your ideas. You can create what the developer calls ‘mood-boards’ to organize and research anything you like, be it your next project, ideas or random thoughts.
The first time you open up Curator, you will be greeted with a video that will tell you how to use Curator. The app presents you with ‘boards’ that contain 25 ‘cells’. You can create up to five boards for free before you need to buy a $6.99 IAP which enables unlimited boards.
Once you pick a board, you are presented with 25 ‘cells’ or ’tiles’. Tap a cell to input any form of data. Be it text, images or a webpage. Curator will let you import images from your own device as well as from sources like Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Dropbox, Google Drive or even let you search for some on the web. Just connect the accounts, choose your image and it will be imported. You can click the frame icon in the bottom right to make a note. Inputing text is straight forward. Really straight forward. Just input the text you want and hit the frame icon at the top left to go back. No saving, no formatting mess, nothing. If you are researching for a project, a big part of it is exploring the corners of the Interwebs. Curator will also let your search for any topic and browse and save full webpages from its inbuilt browser.
Curator is designed for designers. So of course it looks beautiful. The soft colour theme across the app, much like iA Writer, is soothing. The font is thin, sharp and looks smart. It is also the only option. If you are using an iPad with a non-Retina display, like I am, the font can be a bit too hard to read. But that’s an issue thanks to iOS 7 and its new design and not only limited to Curator.
Curator is an iPad only app. With the new A7 processor onboard iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display, iPads are starting to get really powerful. If you are one of those people who work primarily — if not entirely — from an iPad, you should definitely look at Curator. For the rest of us, Curator provides a good way to explore the internet for ideas, import them from various sources, or just jot them down. All of this packaged into an app that works really fast and is incredibly easy to use. Curator is available Free on the App Store with a $6.99 IAP to enable unlimited boards.
