Duet is a minimal action game for iOS with an absolutely amazing soundtrack. You control two spheres that are orbiting and avoid obstacles to progress through levels. There’s also this story that starts to unfold as you progress through levels and the difficulty increases as well.
There are quite a few things that really make Duet a completely fun experience on iOS. I love that it lets you play in either portrait or landscape. The music and background visuals intertwined with the adrenaline pumping gameplay take Duet to a whole other level. Each level has a dark grey pattern of shapes on a black background usually animated with white blocks coming towards you. The blocks become different as the level progresses and in some cases the blocks move making it harder to navigate to the end of the level. The only things on the screen that aren’t monochrome are the two spheres you control. You control by tapping the left or right part of the screen. If you do happen to hit a block, you will be reminded that nothing is permanent as your sphere splatters like paint across it dragging you back to the start of the level. This will happen often so get used to it. Duet has more than 50 levels across 9 different chapters.
There’s a lot to love here and I honestly can’t find anything wrong with Duet. The controls are fantastic. It has terrific visuals and I’m listening to the soundtrack as I write this review. It syncs data across your iOS devices as well. There are settings to invert colours so you get to play it with two different themes and also the ability to turn the paint off. A game like this is no good without achievements and leaderboards and it has both. Duet is easily one of the better games you will play on your iOS device. Do yourself a favour and buy it. The soundtrack by Tim Shiel is available here. Duet is available on the App Store for $0.99 as of this writing.
