When iA announced that they were working on a writing app for the iPad, I couldn’t have been more excited. These are true pixel lovers who would have a feud over a misplaced pixel — I knew “Writer” was going to be perfection in every way.
Of course, since then, Simplenote 2.0 showed up and blew us, and the competition, like we didn’t know what hit us. Simplenote is incredible. What could Writer have that’s so good?
Writer has no graphical settings or formatting features. It avoids all distracting glitz in the user interface and puts all the beauty in the shape of the text. It uses an interactive logic that helps you concentrate, find your orientation and express yourself. For the iPad version we also added Dropbox synchronization, punctuation and arrow keys.
They’ve detailed out their reasonings behind every move on the blog. I personally am analyzing whether this is worth making a switch from my current Simplenote workflow. Will let you know in an SA review soon. It’s $4.99 if you can’t wait.
