A couple months back I did a piece on Dozzzer, a simple iOS sleep timer that lets you drift off to a mix of your tunes. Today I’m here to present you with ZonkOut, a simple iOS sleep timer that yes, lets you drift off to a mix of your tunes. While ZonkOut works quite similarly to Dozzzer, it presents it all differently. And those pixels, well those pixels certainly are unique.
Polished in shades of gray, ZonkOut’s primary focus is the the stunning white clock face that takes up a solid 60% of the screen. While it is the primary focus, things are laid out chronologically, so let’s start at the top. Select Songs: It pulls up a standard in-app iPod sheet to let your select your songs, playlists, artists, whatevs. Done, so set your volume fade time. Rather than having your music fade in volume straight from the start, you’re free to have it play consistent for a few minutes as you tire, and then start decreasing so it doesn’t keep you awake. Finally, you’re at that crisp clock face. Spin the needle around anywhere up to 6 hours to work with your insomniac nature, and listen to the satisfying needle click with each minute you spin past.
Personally, I’m sticking with Dozzzer. The dark interface plays nicely with your eyes, it works even when the app’s exited, and as a bonus, it has AirPlay support.
Nonetheless, at just $0.99, ZonkOut sports a some gorgeous pixels, and the whole thing just feels a little more polished. The great folks behind it are busy on other great projects currently, but hopefully the new year will bring us some stellar new features and a sweet version of ZonkOut for the iPad.
