In your day-to-day lives, I’m sure there have been numerous times when you’ve wished that a certain string of text that you are viewing on your Mac would magically appear on your iPhone. It could be a phone number for a restaurant whose website you were browsing, a small list that you’d just typed in on your favorite notes app or just a simple URL that you want to SMS someone. Sure, there are several different ways you could send that text snippet from your Mac to your iPhone, but nothing close to how swiftly and elegantly Scribe handles this.
Scribe is a combination of a Mac & iPhone app that works over the Bluetooth LE technology. After you install the apps, Scribe pairs your devices over Bluetooth and enables an always on connection between them, even if you’re not on the same Wi-fi network. Once set up, you can press Cmd+Shift+X on your Mac and any selected text will automatically be pushed to your iPhone. You’ll see a local notification your phone and upon swiping that, the text is automatically copied to the clipboard. The app also presents you with easy options to email or message that snippet away. The iPhone app is beautiful & looks amazing. The main view is just a color coded list of your recently transferred snippets from your Mac. Tapping on any of the items in this list elegantly presents a square preview with sharing options at the bottom. The background is graciously blurred and comes back alive as you dismiss this floating dialogue.
Unfortunately, since Scribe only works over Bluetooth LE, it’s only best suited for text snippets. It does support sending images, but is slower than the earth’s rotation at it. A 29KB PNG image took a little over 50 seconds for me. Scribe costs $2.99 on the Mac App Store, while the iOS app is totally Free. You should also check out the gorgeous website for it. Very rarely have we seen such beautiful pixels on a product page.
