Annotate is a lovely little iOS app from the house of Driftt that allows you to annotate any images, screenshots or photos. I’ve been using Skitch for iOS for the longest time, but after having played with Annotate, I can say I found it far more interesting and fun to use.
When you first launch the app, you are asked to grant it permission to access your Camera and/or Photos. Yes, you can either pick any image from your Camera Roll or snap a fresh one using your camera. Annotate offers six main tools to annotate your images — Arrows, Draw/Pencil, Rectangle, Text, Stickers and Redact. You can also choose between five different colors for each of those tools. Once you are set, you can share the annotated image to any app using the native iOS share sheet or save it back to your Camera Roll.
I love how easy it is to use Annotate. There are micro-animations that fire every time you interacted with an UI element. Because it uses the native share sheet directly, I prefer it over Skitch. Annotate also offers a Share Sheet extension so that you can start annotating directly in many other apps.
Annotate is available as a Universal app for Free on the App Store. There’s also a feature-rich companion Mac app available for $8.99 on the Mac App Store.
