Currencies is an intelligent currency converter app for iPhone and Apple Watch by Edovia, the company known for the brilliant and powerful app Screens for iOS and Mac. Currencies is a really old app, released back in 2009 in the early days of the App Store. The folks at Edovia decided to revive it after the release of the Apple Watch in order to utilize the potential of the Apple Watch screen.
Currencies 2.0 has been completely overhauled and rebuilt from scratch. It features a simple and elegant User Interface with some really well-done interactions. You’ll find all the basic features that you’d typically find in a currency converter app. You can mark your favorite currencies or choose from a long list of supported currencies. The list of currencies displayed include the country flag and symbol as well, which is nifty. Tapping on any currency sets it as the source currency, so you can type the numeric value and Currencies will instantly convert your value into multiple currencies at the same time. Currencies is also a smart currency converter. Depending on where in the world you are, Currencies 2.0 can also set the local currency as the source currency if you allow it to read your lcoation while you use the app. Similarly, if you have a numeric value in your clipboard, Currencies will automatically read that and use it for conversion. If there’s a currency symbol on your clipboard, the app will use that as the source currency.
There are several features that set Currencies 2.0 apart from the rest. For starters, Currencies for Apple Watch isn’t an after thought. Currencies was revived especially for the Apple Watch. Not only can you can carry out quick conversions on your wrist with Currencies with a few taps and swipes, you can also dictate the conversions you want to carry out. This is especially useful if the currency you want to convert to/from is not in your favorites. You can still dictate and Currencies will know exactly what to do. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten our hands on an Apple Watch yet, but we’re hoping it should be with us very soon. Currencies also features a Glance on the Apple Watch, so you can quickly take a look at the conversion rates of your favorite currencies or of the local currency where you’re currently at. Similarly, Currencies also has a Today Widget on the iPhone that displays your favorite currencies and their conversion rates. Unfortunatley, unlike Stacks, you can’t carry out manual conversions in the widget.
Currencies is available for $3.99 on the App Store and available for iPhone and Apple Watch
