Laser Dog Games, the developers that brought us the absolutely fantastic Puk, are back with a new game, Alone. Alone combines popular addictive gameplay mechanics with great visuals and music. Like Puk, Alone is full of polish and oozes class.
Alone is awesome right from the get go with amazing menu animations and a catchy but understated soundtrack. The game feels derivative in its mechanics but it combines the best bits of games that make you keep coming back for more. It has precise controls that really feel perfect. The procedurally generated terrains combined with the super fast twitch based runner gameplay make you keep coming back for more. In Alone, you control a single spacecraft as it traverses through space. While most games of this nature involve you tapping and releasing to move higher or lower, Alone has you sliding your finger across the screen. The spacecraft moves very fluidly with your finger and there’s even an inverted controls option. Your aim is to get as far ahead as possible without crashing into the walls or obstacles. Alone is very forgiving. It makes you feel like you can do better each time you die and there are visual indicators for some obstacles that help you. There are 3 different levels and 2 bonus levels in Alone. Subsequent levels are unlocked by crossing a certain score in the previous level. Alone supports leaderboards as expected and I am not even close to being bored of it. I’ve been playing it almost daily for the past few weeks.
Alone looks really good. There’s literally nothing I dislike about the game’s visuals. They look great on high resolution screens and I really love playing Alone on iPad. The music in the game seemingly takes a backseat to the adrenaline pumping gameplay and visuals but it is great in its own right. The soundtrack is available here. As with Puk, Laser Dog Games have really hit it out of the park with Alone. This is game that you absolutely must own. Alone is available for $1.99 on iOS on the App Store and Android on Google Play.
