Stand In
This is an absolute godsend for iOS app designers. Stand In allows you to create prototypes of your app UI in Photoshop CC and then interact with it on your iOS device as if it was an actual app. Any changes you make in Photoshop are updated real time in Stand In, allowing you to see and evaluate changes as you make them. You can also share your prototype with others and allow them to interact with it as an app, instead of having to share design workflows and illustrations. It is an incredible experience, and we were blown away. You can sign up now for a 14-day free trial, following which, Stand In costs $25 a month for unlimited prototypes, a real bargainl when you think about the possibilities Stand In opens up for you. Still need some convincing? Check out the Video Tutorials they’ve made.
Glyphish
Glyphish is a great icon set of 732 iOS 7 ready glyphs. They are available as two sets of 366 unique icons – Outlined and Filled. The glyphs themselves are beautiful and smooth, and look fantastic on Retina Screens. You can preview the entire set, so you can find the ones you’re looking for before you pull the trigger on the $50 asking price.
Really Good Emails
If you’re in the business of designing email newsletters or other communiques, you’ve got to check this site. It’s a collection of some of the best designed emails we’ve ever seen. Matthew Smith, the curator, organised them into 14 categories, allowing you to find inspiration that suits your needs. If you have a design you’d like to get featured on the site, you can get in touch with Matthew, and if it cuts the mustard, he will feature it on the site. Judging by the collection, you’ll be in some really good company if that happens.
Android Mockup and Concept Tool
Here’s something for you Android App Designers – Nikolai Prettner has just updated his excellent Android Mockup and Concept Tool to version 3.1. This is a tool for concepts and mockup designs for Android apps. It includes design inspirations from all Google Apps, up to and including Android 4.4 KitKat. All elements are made editable, including those that form part of the Android Status Bar. If you’re looking for a great tool to design Android apps, look no further.
Comic Neue
Admit it : Comic Sans MS has long been your favourite whipping boy for anything poorly designed. It’s pretty much a bad designed themed meme in itself (no offence, Doge). So when you read the word ‘Comic’ in the Platter section of the site, you were intrigued. Well, so were we, when we came across this site. The preface states : “Comic Sans wasn’t designed to be the world’s most ubiquitous casual typeface” (we couldn’t agree more). But we were pleasantly surprised to see what Craig Rozynski has done with the venerable font. Gone are the strange squiggles and ugly lines of the original, and they’ve been replaced by something that could actually stand scrutiny. The font itself is available for download for free. Who knows? You might actually give the old typeface another chance.
