As kids, we used to love playing sports. Be it football, cricket, baseball or even something as simple as hide & seek, outdoor activities used to be a lot of fun. That doesn’t seem to be the case with kids these days, as most of them just prefer watching television or playing their favorite video games. Even with adults who are interested in playing a sport, finding someone to play the sport with is quite difficult. Sporty aims to solve this.
Sporty is an incredibly beautiful iPhone app that helps you find people who are interested in playing your favorite sport. It lets you create an event for your favorite spot, select a location, date & time and post that even so that others using the app can find it. Alternatively, you can just launch the app and it will show you anyone nearby who is looking for company for that sport. Sporty includes a long list of sports that you can choose from. You can then invite people to this activity by choosing from your friends or people ‘nearby’, or you can even manually invite people from Facebook or via SMS. Next, choose whether you want to keep this activity private (For your close friends only) or Public (so that anyone can join in). The activity summary shows you who has been Invited, who’s Going and who has Declined. You can even add chat messages for others to see. Sporty reminds you of an upcoming event via Push Notification alerts.
The app has been beautifully crafted and the screens look stunning. Each sport uses its respective photo as the background and the UI is absolutely lovely to look at. This isn’t surprising, since the team of three also includes Mathias Mikkelsen, the man behind Timely.
Sporty is a great way to connect with people who are interested in the same sport as you are. It’s ‘Nearby’ feature makes it easy for you to get out of your house and burn some calories, all while enjoying the sport you’ve always loved. My only quibble is that it uses Facebook to log in, although I’m sure other options are coming soon.
Sporty is available Free on the App Store.
