Reeder has long been one of my favorite apps for Mac. After NetNewsWire died, Reeder was the app that I quickly latched onto and it did a wonderful job of helping me consume my RSS feeds. Over the years, although its development has been slow and I had moved onto ReadKit as my primary RSS app, Reeder has had a special place in my heart, and on my Mac. After about two months of a Public Beta, today marks the release of Reeder 3 on the Mac App Store.
Reeder 3 brings along a plethora of new features and improvements. The biggest change in this update is a refreshed User Interface and polish, and the addition of a few more themes. Reeder 3 is already ready for the OS X El Capitan release in a few hours. It also supports native sharing extensions to other Mac apps. If you have smart folders in the list, Reeder 3 can now display unread and starred counts for you and hide the folders if there are no unread/starred items in them. The article viewer now has the option to set a separate font for the article title. However, my favorite improvements in this release is the app’s ability to display the URL in the status bar when hovering over a link and a new ‘Archive’ section under ‘All Items’ that displays only the read items.
Reeder 3 ships with a lot more improvements and seems like a pretty solid release. I’m gonna spend a few days with it away from ReadKit and see if I can move back to it.
Reeder 3 is a free update to existing users and is available for $9.99 on the Mac App Store.
