Sofa is a beautiful iPhone app for movie enthusiasts. It helps you discover new movies through hand curated sections, so you always have something interesting to watch. Sofa is a great way to spend the weekend watching a movie that you’ve discovered in the app.
The app itself is quite simple to use. There are three main tabs — Discover, Search and Watchlist. The discover tab contains hand curated list of movies, like Coming Soon, Now Playing, Summer Camp, Kid Geniuses, Vampires, Moments in Time, etc. Each of these lists contain a variety of movies as suggestions. You can tap on any movie and read its synopsis + other meta data and add it to your watch list with one tap. The app also lists details about the cast and crew for each film. You can tap on the actor to view a list of movies they’ve starred in. I love the way the app handles the presentation of all this data, including the movie posters. The transitions in the app make the experience even better.
The Search bar lets you look up a movie by its title, or you can even look up an actor or director. This is especially useful when a friend recommends a movie to you and you quickly want to add it to your watch list. The third tab lists the movies you’ve added to your watch list.
Sofa is a really simple yet lovely app to discover movies to watch. You can grab it for Free from the App Store. I do wish the app also contained information about where the movie is available for download or streaming, at least in the US.
