The App Store is filled with several expense trackers, budgeting managers and finance suites and we’ve written about many of them here on Beautiful Pixels. Preshit recently introduced me to Funds, a simple budget calculator with some unique features of its own. Funds is an easy to use, pleasant looking budget calculator that makes visualising your savings fun and simple.
The main view of the app is divided into 3 sections – Income, Expenses and Savings. You can add multiple sources of income in the Income section using the “+” button. Expenses can also be added using the “+” button of the Expenses section. Expenses and incomes must be added as recurring i.e. daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Once you’ve entered your incomes and expenses, the savings section gets updated automatically and displays your current monthly savings, which is a nice touch. You can easily edit an expense or income by tapping on either. You can also delete an income or expense by swiping to the right. A slight swipe to the left shows the percentage contribution of a particular expense or income to your savings or expenditures respectively. The prime feature of the app is the circular graph that is displayed when you tap the “hamburger” button on the top right. The circular graph is pretty slick and lets you visualize your expenditures and savings as percentages. The app’s color scheme changes based on how much you’re saving so you can get a good impression of your savings just by a glance. These little details and touches are what makes Funds stand out. The app doesn’t support currencies, and for simplicity, uses only numbers, which you can treat as your home currency.
I really like the concept of Funds but unfortunately, the app expects you to approximate your expenses for several categories such as groceries, medicines, books, etc. This might not be an issue if you already have an idea of the amount you spend on these categories. The app doesn’t support sync has iCloud sync built into the app, but no way to export your data out of the app. Funds will not replace your full-fledged expense manager but it’s definitely an interesting way to view your savings from recurring expenditures. Funds is available on the App Store for $0.99.
Update: Correct to mention availability of iCloud sync.
