I’ve been very vocal about my love for music apps on iOS. The abundance of quality apps for musicians makes it almost stupid to not buy an iPad or even a Nexus 7 right now. For guitarists, the popular tablature app Guitar Pro is available on iOS and Android. Apps like Cubasis push what a touchscreen can do even further. One more thing I’ve noticed over the last year has been the number of music apps appearing on Google Play, which is awesome. Android has had and still has to some extent issues with latency in audio which will hopefully…

Instacast has been my goto iOS podcast app for quite some time now. While I’ve enjoyed using Pocketcasts on Android, there is no app on iOS that comes close to Instacast, or at least none that look as nice and have the features I want in a podcatcher. Instacast for Mac, that was released recently, brings everything I love about the iOS app to the Mac with a boatload of new stuff that makes it even more awesome. Early last month, Vemedio released a public beta of Instacast for Mac. Vemedio subscribers had access to the alpha since April and…

Gamification is making its way everywhere. When I sat down for a cup of coffee with #nwplyng founder Utsav Agarwal (Who previously worked at EMI India among other places abroad) a while back, he told me of his plans of creating a music sharing service that will be the only one you need. Fast forward to today and #nwplyng has great apps on iOS and Android. As of this week #nwplyng’s iOS and Android apps hit 2.0 and boy do I love them. The app aims to be your go to app for sharing music. On launch, you sign in…

Yahoo! has been treating Flickr and its users relatively badly from what I see online. Flickr Pro users in particular have been unhappy with their decisions lately. 500px on the other hand has been growing worldwide with more and more great photographs being shared. 500px already has a great official app but ISO500 by Pulpfingers is awesome enough to be featured here. On launching the app, you get an absolutely stunning welcome page with options to sign in with your 500px account, create a new one or continue without logging in. The main interface brings the pictures to the forefront…

When it comes to quality music apps, iOS leads the pack by an extremely large margin. The iPad in particular with its beautiful and responsive screen, makes for a perfect touch instrument in addition to a processor for audio given its power. When I got an iPod touch 2nd generation, I bought an app called Bebot because I read Jordan Rudess used it. That was my first real music app on iOS. Today the wealth of options available is mindblowing. There are full fledged workstations like Cubasis as well. I love apps that don’t just try and simulate traditional instruments.…

We’re nearly halfway into 2013 and the App boom is still on. Everyone wants an app or a responsive website because the rise of mobile continues. Almost everyone has an app idea and a concept. Matthew Panzarino has a great post up on The Next Web on the rise of the App Director. An app idea is useless if only you can see it and people you work with are left clueless. Everything seems to work in your head but getting that point across to someone else isn’t very easy. A director works with scenes and actors and an app…
