Droplr has long been my favorite screenshot & file sharing app on the Mac. It cozily sits in your menubar, waiting for any command from you and as soon as it gets the order, it promptly carries out the actions and swiftly returns with the results. You could argue that Droplr is the best kind of virtual butler you could have.
While I have primarily seen Droplr used for sharing screenshots on Twitter and other social networks, the service does a swell job of handling your URL shortening & file upload requests. It can automatically zip and a bunch of files and even handles an audio or video file. Droplr works in the background and presents you with a short, unique URL that you can share with anyone. The Pro account comes with additional disk space, no ads, private uploads or “drops” and even lets you use a custom domain. It’s a lovely little service that is integrated into plenty of popular apps we use daily.
The official Droplr iPhone app has already been featured here on Beautiful Pixels as well as on Smoking Apples in the past, so you know that it has had pretty pixels from the very beginning. The talented Droplr team has been working hard on an update to the app which was released on App Store today. With this release (version 3.0), it is now a Universal app with support for iPad as well as iPad mini. The pixels in the app have been given a fresh coat of improvement and we’re also introduced to a new, native previewer for the drops available in your account. With this new previewer, you get the info like file kind, size and original upload date and you can now easily download/save the files onto your iOS device. Once downloaded, you get the option to “Open in…” any available app. Drops can be easily be shared from within the app using the native sharing in iOS 6.
The new version is available Free on the App Store, with an IAP to purchase a year’s worth of Droplr Pro subscription. If you haven’t tried Droplr yet, you can sign up using this link to get a 200MB bonus.
Update: Droplr is now a paid service with plans starting from $4.99/month. If you sign up using this link, you’ll get a 10% discount.
