I listen to podcasts everyday. I spend at least an hour everyday going through new episodes from the 50 or so podcasts I subscribe to. I got into podcasts after seeing Instacast on just about every homescreen on Homescreen.me. When it comes to tech podcasts, the one network that stands out the most to me is 5by5. After seeing a few people on Twitter suggest some shows from the network, the podcast artwork really got me interested. There’s no real shortage of podcasts to listen to for just about any topic and the high production values of 5by5 shows made me start listening to more and more shows from the network.
Podcast artwork isn’t something most people pay attention to because podcasts are usually playing in the background while you do something else. Almost every show on the 5by5 network has amazing artwork. The art is done by Jory Raphael of Sensible World who also gave us Symbolicons. Each show has its own special art designed to suit the topic and I will be talking about some of my favourites here. The overall theme to the art across shows on the network revolves around the show name with bold colours and shadows used. Directional, which also happens to be my current favourite gaming podcast, has phenomenal artwork. It captures the essence of retro gaming with pixel art and bright colours while still fitting perfectly among the other shows on the network. The Prompt, a show discussing the culture surrounding Apple, uses the retro Apple logo style brilliantly. This is wallpaper worthy artwork. Old Tech News uses a crumpled paper effect with a colour scheme that gives it the aged look.
Even if you aren’t a fan of podcasts in general or are subscribed to way too many, 5by5 podcast artwork is more than worth checking out. If you use apps like Castro or Pocket Casts, the UI of the player will adapt to suit the podcast artwork more and the overall look is plain gorgeous. All the shows on the network along with artwork are listed here.
