There are quite a few times in your day-to-day lives when you find yourself wondering if there was a certain place around where you presently are. Be it a decent restaurant for that quick bite or a Bank ATM, or even a parking place for your precious car, we’ve all been in this situation. There are plenty of apps on the App Store today that’ll tell you what’s around you.
But Localscope does it in style. Localscope is a GPS app that’s powered by social data. It looks up places on Google, Bing, Foursquare, Twitter and Wikimapia and presents them in a brilliantly packaged UI. The app has default queries for some often-used searches or you can type in your own. A horizontal scroll at the bottom lets you move through the sources without retyping your query.
The results that Localscope brings up are presented nicely as well. You have the option of viewing them as a list, on a map or as Augmented Reality. In the list view, you can see the (approx) distance from your current location and the little red needle points in the direction of the place. This is pretty cool feature in actual usage. The app also gets you information about a particular search result and also lets you share it with your friends.
Localscope features tiny animated goodness throughout the app, which makes using it a lot of fun as well. It’s available on the App Store for $1.99.
