Our sponsors this week are Salon.io & they’ve got 100 invites to give out to our readers.
Salon.io is an entirely new site creation and portfolio building tool made for photographers, artists and designers. It allows users with no coding knowledge the ability to realise their designs using an intuitive drag and drop system for uploading and positioning assets whilst providing complete control for code-savvy users.
We are a team of creatives, coders and designers based in Berlin. Because of our background, we’ve always had to make our own portfolio websites or help our friends or students with theirs. We wanted to provide tools that anyone could use with instant visual feedback so that people who wanted to make a beautiful portfolio didn’t need to learn to code or badger their friends to help them out.
After a while we realised that there just wasn’t anything that could do what we wanted and so started work on a platform that could. The first feature we wanted was to allow for ‘salon style hanging’ so images could be arranged as if hung on a wall or laid out across a table. So Salon.io was born.
What is Salon.io good for?
- Enjoying whole new ways of presenting images online: infinite canvas, salon style hanging, clean and clutter free templates.
- Photographers, artists and designers alike can create and publish single albums or even entire portfolios. Freely arrange any visual art on virtual walls.
- Create mood boards, image collections or mockups privately for yourself or publish them to share with anyone you like.
- Get inspiration with the help of our random layout generator.
- Display mixed media (text, video and audio along with your images) easily.
- Optimised for iPad with a gesture controlled zoomable interface.
Salon.io is developed as a Single Page Web App (using Backbone.js) a novel architectural style that lets developers write interactive websites in a more integrated and efficient way. The approach is to assign more duties, which have been typically placed in the backend in traditional websites, to the frontend. Users benefit from faster loading times and a snappier interface as bandwidth and server requests are noticeably reduced.
Salon.io is still in private beta, but we are giving away 100 invites to our readers. Just head over to this link to claim your invite.
Our thanks to Salon.io for sponsoring this week’s RSS feed.
