Reeder has long been one of my favorite apps for Mac. After NetNewsWire died, Reeder was the app that I quickly latched onto and it did a wonderful job of helping me consume my RSS feeds. Over the years, although its development has been slow and I had moved onto ReadKit as my primary RSS app, Reeder has had a special place in my heart, and on my Mac. After about two months of a Public Beta, today marks the release of Reeder 3 on the Mac App Store. Reeder 3 brings along a plethora of new features and improvements.…

When it comes to taking photographs, lighting is one of the most important factors to consider. Lighting can make or break a photograph and often, a good photographer goes to great lengths to ensure the scene is well lit or is just the way he wants it. One of the best possible time to take a good photograph is during what is known as a Golden Hour. Just over a year ago, we wrote about Pinner 3.0 and how it was the first Pinboard app to take advantage of the new features available on iOS 8. In his review, Mikhail wrote that Pinner 3 was “one of the best Pinboard apps available today”. Sam Oakley, Pinner’s talented developer has been hard at work over the last few months readying the app for iOS…

Although I’ve been writing professionally for over 10 years now, I still come across words in the English language that I either don’t understand, or don’t know how to pronounce. I still laugh at the fact that I was pronouncing ‘Yosemite’ all wrong and only realized my mistake when I got hooked onto all the Yosemite Timelapse videos on Vimeo. Often, I come across words with an interesting spelling and have to look up their meaning to fully understand them. Although I’ve mostly relied upon the built-in dictionaries of OS X and iOS, apps like LookUp and Word Vault have…

One of my favorite features of the Apple Watch is its hourly reminder, nagging you to get up and walk around for a minute. As someone who spends many hours a day sitting at a desk and staring at two giant screens, the hourly reminders prove to be of great help to at least pay some attention to your own health. Inspired by this, Stand for Mac is a brilliantly named Mac app that reminds you to stand up every hour. Once enabled, all Stand App does is send a notification every hour, alerting you to get up. It displays…

iA Writer has long been one of the best writing apps available out there. Ever since its debut 5 years ago, this minimal and distraction-free writing app has garnered quite a loyal audience. In December of 2013, Information Architects released Writer Pro a completely new and separate app that promised power-packed features in the same elegant UX of the original iA Writer. Yesterday, the Information Architects released iA Writer 3.0 — the third generation of the iA Writer suite of apps. iA Writer 3 saw a simultaneous release on iPhone, iPad and Mac and even though it shares its name…
