When it comes to emailing photos, Gmail’s 25 MB limit runs out before the 15th picture is attached. We take more photos than that of our lunch these days. Of course, there are alternatives. You can use Google Drive storage and attach that in the email, or share via iCloud or Dropbox. But your friends might not be Beautiful Pixels readers. We want a dead simple solution for the sender and receiver. WeTransfer’s iPhone app is more than happy to help.
This is a companion app to WeTransfer, the service that lets you upload and share files with anyone quickly and easily. With this iPhone app, you can attach photos and videos from your iOS device of up to 10 GB and send it all off at once to any email address you please for free. The recipient will get a link where they can easily download the media you sent. You can transfer not only via WiFi, but also over 3G or LTE.
The app is beautifully designed and incredibly easy to use. You’ll be greeted by a normal welcome screen, telling you what all the app can do. Swipe down and give the app permission to access your camera roll. All your photos and videos are now listed here, starting with the newest. Start tapping on the ones you want to share. You’ll see a dynamic circle in the center as your media is being uploaded, showing you the progress while the beautiful parallax backgrounds keep changing every now and then. From the top of the screen, you can cancel or pause the transfer any time you like. You also need to keep the app open while it uploads your files. You can’t close the app or switch to any other. Things like this make you realize how limited iOS 7’s multitasking really is.
On the iPhone (due to iOS limitations), WeTransfer is only good for transferring photos and videos, nothing else. You can, of course, use their website to send any kind of files. I tested the app over WiFi and 3G and while it seemed a little slower than I expected it to be, it might just be due my internet connection. If you live in a place where you don’t have to worry about that sort of thing, WeTransfer will suit you well. WeTransfer is available for Free on the App Store.
