Delivery Status Touch by Junecloud for iOS is by far the best package tracker app available on the App Store. It looks amazing and works great. On OS X though, we’ve had to keep the (ugh) Dashboard enabled just for the Delivery Status Widget. Thankfully, this changed when OS X Yosemite shipped recently. Junecloud introduced Deliveries for Mac — a full fledged, native app for Mac available through the App Store with a bunch of new features. Deliveries builds on everything that was great about the iOS app and adds some really great things. The interface is reminiscent of the…

It is hard to find someone who doesn’t rely on Google for email in some form. Most people just use Gmail and why wouldn’t they? The service is fantastic. Mailbox was the first app that actually did something interesting when it comes to email and their contribution is felt in Apple’s new Mail.app on iOS 8 with the swipe gestures and now Inbox by Google. Swiping to action email and snooze emails to a later time and date saves you the trouble of remembering things or using a todo app. Inbox by Google however, takes it to a whole other…
Drafts by Agile Tortoise has always been an amazing app. It is more powerful than most apps that exist on any platform. When people ask me what Drafts is, I usually reply by saying it is like Launch Center Pro for text. It has been in my iPhone and iPad dock for a while now. Just when I thought Drafts was powerful enough, Greg absolutely blows everyone away with Drafts 4 for iOS 8. Given how much functionality is added in each point update to Drafts, a whole new app implied ground breaking functionality and Drafts 4 completely delivers. Drafts…
Today my favorite, and what I consider the best Calendar app suite for Mac and iOS, Fantastical, gets a damn good iOS 8 update. Fantastical 2.2 for iPhone and iPad released today with a slew of iOS 8 features. Other calendar apps got nice updates when iOS 8 launched, but Fantastical was unfortunately missing from the action. The app has done a damn good job with the new functionality and over the last few weeks, I’ve enjoyed using it. The big things in Fantastical 2.2 are a customizable today widget, actionable notifications, and a share sheet extension. The share sheet…
Evernote manages to impress me with every iteration of their apps on iOS and OS X. Little over a week ago, Evernote launched a redesigned web app that absolutely blew my mind. It is on par or better than most writing apps for a lot of things and it looks drop dead gorgeous. The web beta has a minimal look with great typography. Glyphs are beautiful, animations are subtle, and there’s even a custom dropdown menu while typing. While the overall look has tons of whitespace, the use of the signature green in alerts and as the main colour in…
When Apple announced iOS 7 at WWDC ’13, everyone turned into a design critic. Although it was a huge step away from the design principles we were used to, everyone was optimistic about a new direction for iOS and the apps on this platform. After the announcement, the iPad release for the iOS 7 beta was delayed by about a month. This delay felt like the beginning of the iPad taking the back seat to the iPhone, when it comes to software development at Apple. Even today, it feels like all the effort of optimizing iOS goes into the iPhone…
