I have been writing about beautifully designed apps for just over eight years now. Although I started off writing about Mac apps at Smoking Apples, it was the launch of iPhone and the introduction of its App Store that essentially changed my life and brought me to where I am today — writing about beautiful pixels on Beautiful Pixels. Since I’m based in Mumbai, India, I have always been curious to find out about apps that are built (in part or whole) right here in India, especially Mumbai. A lot has changed over the last couple of years and there…

We’ve written about icons plenty of times in the past, but this is the first time we’ve come across an icon set like this one. Heroicons is a set of beautiful icons designed to be customized any way you want, using CSS or SASS. The set contains a total of 154 icons, all of which can be customized to your liking. These are SVG icons and come in two sizes. Unlike most other icons, Heroicons gives you the special ability to pick a color for specific areas of the icons. Take for example an icon for a house. Here’s what…
nvNotes nvNotes is the simple and elegant notes app for iOS that I wrote about back in May 2015. It released as a Universal app for $9.99 back then, but has undergone several noteworthy improvements over the last few years, many of which are big enough to warrant a replug here in 2017. The biggest change is that the app is now available for just $0.99, so if price was a deal-breaker for you, now’s a great time to dive right in. nvNotes also added support for iPad Pro and Split View/SlideOver modes, so it will fit right at home…
Mozilla Acquires Pocket Mozilla — best known for the Firefox browser has announced on its blog that it has completed the acquisition of Read It Later, Inc — the developers behind the very popular read-later service Pocket. Mozilla says that this acquisition helps them in “growing [their] mobile presence and providing people everywhere with powerful tools to discover and access high quality web content, on their terms, independent of platform or content silo.” On the Pocket blog, founder Nate Weiner writes: Pocket will continue on as a wholly-owned, independent subsidiary of Mozilla Corporation. We’ll be staying in our office, and…
I have been a fan of GAget ever since its debut back in 2011 in the form of an OS X Dashboard Widget. It did a fantastic job of removing the complexity from Google Analytics — the company’s free web analytics service and presented only the relevant date to you. In early 2015, GAget returned to the Mac, this time in the form of a Today widget for the Notification Center, so all your analytics data was readily available with a simple swipe. Today marks the debut of GAget 2.0 — a gigantic update to a already fantastic analytics app…
Timely is a brilliant, elegant and beautifully crafted time-tracking service that’s designed for freelance individuals, teams and even big companies. We first featured Timely here on Beautiful Pixels back in December 2013 and since then, the service has vastly improved its feature set. It underwent a complete redesign a couple of months ago and the iOS app too has undergone massive changes and improvements. If I were a full-time freelance web-developer, this is what I’d be using, especially after the recent launch of the Memory feature and Mac app. The most cumbersome part of using a time-tracking service or an…
